The Newport Bridge, or Tees Bridge to give it it's official name, was completed in 1934 and later opened by Prince Albert, Duke of York (later King George VI).

A vertical lifting bridge, designed to allow shipping traffic to pass underneath, it saw its final lift in 1990 before the span was permanently sealed for use as a road bridge only.

It now possesses Grade 2 Listed Building status.
