ROAD MANORS

An early winter's morning image of Manors car park, taken from the elevated pedestrian walkway crossing the A167 Central Motorway to the city centre.

Built in 1963, the car park was the first multi-storey car park in Newcastle and marked the beginnings of Wilfred Burns' car-centric plans for the modernisation of the city through the Central East Motorway Plan.

Sadly, these plans were never fulfilled in their entirety, but the car park is now considered a celebrated symbol of brutalist architecture.
