The expectation on Teesside is that the now silent blast furnace at Redcar is destined to join the nearby World War 2 pill box as a decaying relic that came to define an earlier generation.
Something that once represented industrial might, local pride and defiance in the face of adversity, is now left to slowly become simply an historical feature within the bleak landscape.
